Santa Fe Railroad icing dock and crew, Deming, New Mexico, July, 1915. Clara May (Raney) Akard stated that her father, A.C. Raney, got a job with the Santa Fe Railroad working in or on refrigeration cars, although his exact duties and position within the company remain unknown. Curiously, A.C. Raney does not appear in this photograph of the icing dock and crew, who are dressed in the typical overalls or other work clothing worn by railroad labor crews. It may be that A.C. Raney is the person taking the photograph, which would explain his absence. However, in other photographs of this same era, A.C. Raney is nattily dressed in a dark suit and tie, usually with a dark dress hat. Moreover, it is known that he was familiar with and often associated with high-ranking officials within the Santa Fe Railway Corporation, all of which tend to suggest that he was not the typical railroad crew manual laborer.

The Santa Fe Railroad Company had its main offices in the Kerckhoff Building in 1922.

Raney does not appear in this photograph of the icing dock and crew, who are dressed in the typical overalls or other work clothing worn by railroad labor crews. It may well be that A.C.
