Restored Hupfeld Helios III/39 Orchestrion,
November of 2002

Hupfeld Helios III/39 Orchestrion, as restored by Ron Cappel, 2002.
After a meticulous cosmetic and mechanical restoration the big Helios shines and performs like brand new. Built circa 1911, it is adorned with a wonderfully ornate case that is fitted with spectacular lighting effects, which include a third-dimensional animated scene, a twirling Fancy Lamp, tiny electric lamps that flash on and off in sequence and lighted torches on each side-wing.

Not to be outdone by its dazzling exterior, the musical capabilities are equally appealing. Numerous orchestral pipework voices thrill the ear, while the piano and various percussive instruments add to the musical excitement.
