The new casework for the Monstre Paganini, built by Siegfried
Wendel, is an upsized version of the classic Model 7 case (pictured
at left). This stunningly ornate case design was perhaps the most
deliciously lavish of any of the standard Paganini styles. How many
Model 7 orchestrions were imported into the U.S. by Wurlitzer is
unknown. However, an extant photograph shows a Style 7 Paganini
with "San Francisco" etched in the glass of the music-roll access
door. On the reverse side is a penciled note stating that the instrument
was sold by Kohler & Chase, who were at the time a prominent San
Francisco dealer in automatic musical instruments.
