A tapered glass cylinder (with an electric lamp inside)
and with metal fittings at each end extends from the rear of the cast metal peacock's body, and goes
through to the backside of the mirrored tail, where it is mechanically supported. Behind
the peacock assembly there is a round leather belt and pulley system
that causes the Peacock's
lighted tail to rotate whenever the instrument is in operation,
producing a colorful effect on the semi-circle of carefully
fitted mirrors.
