Welte Style 6 Concert Orchestrion
Undergoing Restoration
(Baltimore, Maryland, 1991)

Interior view showing the mechanical mechanisms in the Welte Style 6 Concert Orchestrion.

With the casework removed, the interior chassis can be clearly observed. Restoration is not yet complete.

At the bottom of the chassis the large pressure reservoir with its eight (8) feeders can be seen, with four narrow bellows on the left side and four wide bellows on the right side. The smaller vacuum reservoir below it has four (4) narrow feeders on its the left side, which are directly beneath and connected to the four narrow pressure feeders. The partial vacuum generated operates the valves, motor pneumatics and trapwork; with the wind-pressure used to blow the pipes.

In the middle is the music roll mechanism, with the valve stack behind. At the top is the pipework, mounted on the massive tracker type pipe chest.
