Peerless Style O Orchestrion. Introduced in 1909, the Style “O” orchestrion was the first Peerless style to make use of the new multi-tune rewind type music roll system. Music rolls for the new Style “O” were in the 20,000 Series, and normally contained 15 to 20 tunes. Early versions had symmetrically arranged metal pipes, while the later version pictured above had wooden violin and flute pipes were arranged chromatically. Instrumentation consisted of a piano, mandolin attachment, a rank of 36 wooden violin pipes, a second rank of 36 wooden flute pipes, a snare drum, bass drum, tympani effect, cymbal, triangle, and castanets. The bass drum is partially visible behind the pipework, but all other trapwork is obscured by the two ranks of wooden pipes.
